Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. It's the season when all my cherished vegetables appear on our kitchen table.

From beets to seasonal squashes, I seem to be on a mission to cook them all in delicious and unique ways. So, I am excited to present you with one side dish that's sure to please any lover of sweet potato fries.  Now, I wouldn't call myself a lover of sweet potatoes, more of an admirer of the root.  I usually stick to the standard candied dishes or perhaps a pie or two from time to time.  But, the one side that I always make during the Fall is my sweet potato fries.

There's just something about the way the sweetness of the potato mixes with a salty seasoning. It's the perfect flavor combination! However, when I'm carving a bit more sugar and the comforting tastes of cinnamon and brown sugar, I make a dipping sauce for my sweet potato fries. The trick to giving it the texture of ketchup is to incorporate a little heavy cream into the mixture.

The sauce only takes a few minutes to prepare, so you can throw it together while the sweet potato fries cook. I swear, it'll be worth the extra time at the stove. For the seasonings on the taters, I used exactly that, season salt. Using this spice is the simplest way to add a savory element to the side dish.  I also used extra virgin olive to coat the individual fries. This process is beneficial in two ways. The coating of fat helps the potatoes crisp slightly in the oven. Additionally, the oil ensures the salt sticks to the taters and doesn't just come off in the pan.  Plus, who doesn't enjoy the flavor of a quality olive oil?

These sweet potato fries can be made in about 30 minutes, dipping sauce and all. That means less time in the kitchen for you and spending more of your day with those you love. All you need to do is start by slicing the taters lengthwise. Seriously, even if you don't make the sweet potato fries, you have to eat the sauce.  Put it on a biscuit, a piece of toast, whatever it takes to get it into your tummy. I cannot wait to make these fries again. In fact, I just got home from the store a few hours ago with a couple of pounds of sweet potatoes, so you know what I'm having for dinner. Sweet Potato Fries

  • 2 Large Sweet Potatoes (sliced, approx. 260g)
  • 1 Teaspoon Season Salt (or other salty seasoning mix)
  • 1 Tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil (for tossing)

Cinnamon and Brown Sugar Dipping Sauce

  • 5 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • 4 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 Cup Heavy Whipping Cream

Sweet Potato Fries

  • First, preheat your oven to 425 degrees F.

  • Next, wash the potatoes and cut them lengthwise into fries. (julienning)

  • Then, place the fries into a large mixing bowl and toss them with the oil and salt.

  • Last, place them on a sheet pan and let them bake in your preheated oven for 30 minutes or until they slightly crisp.

Cinnamon and Brown Sugar Dipping Sauce

  • First, while the fries cook, place a small saucepan on your stovetop over medium-low heat.

  • Next, add the brown sugar, cinnamon, and the heavy cream to the butter.

  • Then, as the butter melts, whisk everything together into a sauce.

  • Last, serve the dipping sauce with your fries.

I would not recommend making this recipe ahead. The fries can be stored in your fridge in a sealed container for up to two days.
