Read My Little Pony: Fiendship Is Magic Online
"Friendship Is Magic" is the collective proper noun for the series premiere of the animated television series My Niggling Pony: Friendship Is Magic. The episodes follow Twilight Sparkle, a studious, antisocial unicorn, who reluctantly travels to the town of Ponyville at the insistence of her mentor, Princess Celestia. There, she meets five ponies—Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Little finger Pie—with whom she becomes close friends. Together, the six defeat Nightmare Moon, a villain who has returned subsequently a thousand years of imprisonment in the moon, with magical artifacts known every bit the "Elements of Harmony". Many of the creatures that announced in these episodes take designs that convey humor or silliness. Aired in 2 parts, on October 10 and Oct 22, 2010, the episodes received positive reviews from critics.
Plot
Part one
In the magical country of Equestria, a studious, hating unicorn named Twilight Sparkle learns of a prophecy; information technology states the evil Nightmare Moon will return during the upcoming Summer Sunday Celebration after a thou years imprisoned in the moon. She tries to warn her mentor, Princess Celestia, the benevolent alicorn ruler of Equestria, of the impending danger. However, the latter dismisses her warnings and sends her and her baby dragon banana Spike to Ponyville to supervise the preparations for the commemoration and brand some friends, which Twilight could intendance less well-nigh. Equally a result, Twilight reluctantly meets 5 ponies in charge of the preparations: Applejack, a country earth pony who works on her family'southward apple tree farm; Rainbow Nuance, a tomboyish pegasus who helps control the weather; Rarity, a glamorous unicorn who designs style; Fluttershy, a shy pegasus who communicates with animals; and Little finger Pie, a hyperactive world pony who loves throwing parties. Twilight becomes acquainted with them. Afterwards, she looks forwards to continuing to study the legend of Nightmare Moon at her new home, the Golden Oaks Library, but her plans are spoiled when Pinkie Pie throws her a party. Frustrated, Twilight fails to do any studying and heads to the celebration in the forenoon. There, Celestia vanishes while Nightmare Moon appears and decrees everlasting nighttime.
Office ii
Twilight, joined by her new friends, returns to her library, recalling a set of artifacts used to defeat Nightmare Moon in the past called the "Elements of Harmony". Her guidebook states that 5 of the elements are known: Honesty, Kindness, Laughter, Generosity, and Loyalty. However, the sixth is not. It further reads that when the v Elements are present, a spark will cause the 6th to announced and that their last known location is the Castle of the Ii Sisters. Twilight and her new friends venture deep into the Everfree Forest, where the castle is located, to find the Elements of Harmony. Nightmare Moon creates obstacles to finish them, only each pony helps the group overcome them using her own strengths: when a cliff is destroyed, Applejack truthfully tells Twilight to let herself autumn then Rainbow Nuance and Fluttershy can catch her; when a Manticore is hurt, Fluttershy stops her friends from attacking him and removes a thorn from his paw; when Nightmare Moon creates scary visuals out of tree, Little finger convinces her friends to laugh at them instead of fear them; when a sea serpent is in despair over losing his mustache, Rarity gives him her tail instead; and when the Shadowbolts, a group of talented flyers, ask Rainbow Dash to be their leader, she declines, citing loyalty to her friends.
Once the grouping enters the castle find the Elements, Nightmare Moon appears and lures Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash to another belfry, leaving her and Twilight alone. As the latter tries to create a spark with her magic, the onetime shatters them. Though devastated, Twilight hears her friends encouraging her and realizes that she and her new friends represent the half-dozen Elements: Honesty (Applejack), Kindness (Fluttershy), Laughter (Little finger Pie), Generosity (Rarity), Loyalty (Rainbow Dash) and Magic (herself). The spark is revealed to be a spark of friendship and the group wield the Elements to defeat Nightmare Moon, returning her to her original grade as Celestia's younger sis, Princess Luna. Celestia returns, forgives Luna, and allows Twilight to stay in Ponyville in order to continue studying the magic of friendship and stay with her new friends.
Groundwork
The opening scene of "Friendship Is Magic" presents drawings that are like to fairy tale ones.[1] The episodes feature a sea snake, whose peculiar hair and expressive face "reflect the unexpected humour he lends the story".[2] The Manticore, studied by Lynne Naylor in diverse incarnations, is intended to describe a empty-headed but ferocious attitude; his abrupt wings are a contrast from his round pilus and body structure.[iii] Nightmare Moon, an idea from Paul Rudish,[four] has an anatomy, wings, and color palette that represent her menace.[v] The episodes' only song, "Laughter Vocal", in which Pinkie sings to convince her friends to express joy instead of fright, was written by Daniel Ingram after he was suggested equally a songwriter for the testify; he wrote a demo based on lyrics past the serial creator, Lauren Faust, which ultimately secured him the job.[vi]
Broadcast and reception
The commencement part of the episodes aired on October 10, 2010, on The Hub, with the second airing twelve days later.[7] Critics were positive towards the episodes. Sherilyn Connelly considered the episodes a "fun ride". She praised the climax, stating "the episode[s] ... fly off the track in an orgy of oddly Spielbergian furnishings and philosophizing".[viii] Though she establish the plot predictable, The Mary Sue 's Nicole Pucci chosen the episodes "a great setup for an RPG [role-playing game]". She accounted Rarity's generosity towards the ocean snake as an example of "[t]he testify ... address[ing] several things [she] wouldn't have expected to show up in today's overly-sterilized kids' fare".[9] A study by Christian Valiente and Xeno Rasmusson considered the episodes to contest gender stereotypes; they said that females are in positions of authority—such as Applejack'due south management of her family and Rainbow Dash'southward controlling the weather condition— and roles that are principal—with only two male characters who speak—and active—with a female villain driving the story and female ponies resolving the conflict.[10]
Home media
In Feb 2012, Shout! Factory released a DVD, titled "The Friendship Express", containing both parts of "Friendship Is Magic" along with three other episodes.[11] The premiere has also been included in the first flavor DVD, released in December of that aforementioned twelvemonth.[12]
